Construction Safety Cards In The Construction Industry

New building regulations dictate that Construction safety Cards are essential for anyone working on a building site. Without the CSCS (Construction Services Certification Scheme) Card, you are effectively unable to access any construction area in the UK, as most contractors require them as proof of competence in a specific area. This is becoming increasingly important dues to the complexity of modern building tasks completed inthe UK.

Construction safety Cards prevent accidents and injury on construction sites and ensure that the government protects employees from potentially dangerous situations. If you are not adequately trained in Health and Safety, and basic construction awareness, you will find it difficult to gain work in any building site.

Getting hold of your CSCS Construction Safety Card is relatively easy, and requires potential holders to sit a number of online tests related to their expertise. The colour coding of the card represents the skill level of the holder. Green, for example, is for persons with no direct construction skills, while red is used for trainees, and blue is for skilled workers. This goes right the way up to gold.

Over one and a half million workers in the UK are in possession of a Construction Safety Card, which are split into three groups. Craft and Operative encompasses trades like aerial and satellite dish installers and carpenter/joiners. On site clerks, and architects are the basis of the technical, supervisory and management trades, while metalwork sprayers and asbestos analysts form the third category.

Taking the appropriate training quickly will speed up your application. If you already have the appropriate qualifications, you may be eligible for a card based solely on the strength of your course. If you have ever held a CSCS Construction Safety Card before, you will be able to update and renew it with a phone call to CITB SkillsDirect. If you have an NVQ of SVQ for your given trade, the same body will be able to organise the application. If you have a City & Guilds qualification, the area is slightly grey and you will need to phone CITB SkillsDirect, who will confirm which details you require to organise your card.

If you have none of these qualifications, you will need to sit the online courses and undergo on site assessment in order to get your Construction Safety Card. The final route is the experience worker practical assessment, which is primarily for older skilled workers who have all the appropriate skills, but entered the trade before any formal qualifications were introduced.

Getting hold of a Construction Safety Card isn't expensive at all. The card itself costs £24.47, while the health and safety test costs £17.50, with an additional £9.99, if you require the booklet for revision. Having the appropriate safety training and qualifications are essential for anyone looking to work, or further their career in the construction industry. If you are looking for work in the UK on construction sites, a Construction Safety Card is the optimum way to start the process.
