Advantages and Disadvantages to e-Learning

What are the advantages and disadvantages to e-learning? The most obvious advantage is that most online training can be done at your pace, which is a huge advantage for all busy people. There are so many other advantages that most people have never even thought of. On the other hand, there are a few disadvantages to online learning. Let's take a closer look at why e-learning is the way of academics in

today's busy world and what can make it unsuitable for you.

If you are up to date on the global crisis we are under, you know all about global warming, natural resources that are running out quickly and trees being cut down by the thousands and are not getting replaced fast enough. So, what does all this have to do with getting an education online?

Well. all of that leads up to one great advantage of award winning online training and that is, it affects the world in a positive way. If you choose e-learning, your gas consumption is lowered by not having to drive to a classroom. This will lower your vehicles gas and maintenance bill tremendously. Also, by not adding unnecessary fumes and gases into the air, less driving means it will help protect our atmosphere. Think about all the trees that it takes to print reading material and exam papers. Thousands of trees can be saved just by an online training course.

Another advantage of e-learning is the cost is so much less than the cost of a traditional classroom setting. There is hardly no overhead such as books, teacher's salaries and other materials. Basically, the videos are created, with a slew of information for you and placed on the internet for you to access. So besides the cost of making the videos and CD's, hosting the material on a server may cost the company. too. There is probably more overhead that what is mentioned, but it would be minimal. Minimal overhead means you will save money with online training because the company will not have costs that they need to pass on to you.

One disadvantage to online learning is that you may not be that computer savvy. Even though the price would be right and you will helping the environment, you may have a difficult time maneuvering around an online course without some computer and internet skills.

One other disadvantage would be the fact that having a real live person that you can ask questions of, like in a real classroom, may not be available. The programs do offer assistance to any student that needs it, but the type of help may not be as helpful to you if you are use to one on one and face to face assistance. This may be a little frustrating.

E-learning has it's ups and downs, but in all actuality, it is the best way to get any education, if you live on a tight schedule and an even tighter budget. Do not let the disadvantages discourage you because they can be overcome.

Fireplace Safety Tips

Each and every year, destructive fires are started due to unsafe or improper use. Fires can be prevented, so long as certain safety precautions are taken. By following these tips, you can keep your family and your home safe from the dangers of fire.

Always be sure that the area near your fireplace is free from debris and clutter. A fireplace can be a warm and inviting place to be, but it can also pose serious danger. Make every effort to keep newspaper, kindling, and firewood away from burning embers. Always use a fireplace screen to prevent those burning embers from leaping out of the fireplace.

You should also inspect your chimney on an annual basis. Over the summer months, a bird may have decided to nest in your chimney. That nest could prevent the smoke from exiting your home. The nest could possibly catch fire, or it might cause your home to fill with smoke. Either way, it is not an ideal situation. Creosote is a flammable material that will build up in your chimney over time, so you will also need to have it cleaned every year or so.

Another thing to be mindful of is the amount of wood you are burning at any given time. A fire can grow out of control quite easily and the more wood you use, the more heat and flames will be produced. Do not overload your fireplace. Be extra careful not to burn anything other than wood are a manufactured fire log. Newspapers or garbage are very dangerous when burned in a fireplace. Think smart.

Just in case, always keep a fire extinguisher close at hand. A fire can get out of control very fast, and you may not have time to go looking for a fire extinguisher when you need one most. Also, ensure that your home is equipped with smoke alarms. If your smoke alarms are powered by batteries, be sure to change them every few months. Ideally, they should be hard-wired into the electrical system of your home.

Never, under any circumstances, leave your fire unattended. Always keep your children away from the fire, and explain to them the danger that it poses. You can even visit your local fire hall to obtain a video on fire safety that is geared towards children. Make sure that you do not go to bed unless the fire has burned out. By following these simple tips, you and your family can get cozy in front of the fireplace for years to come.

Cause and Prevention of Fatal Construction Accidents

Although there is a decrease in the number of fatalities in the construction industry, it still has the highest number of deaths compared to any other industries in the private sector.

There are constant dangers that surround workers and one mistake can lead to a fatal construction accidents.

The most common fatal construction accidents are:

• Falls from different levels or elevated heights such as roofs

• Struck by nail

• Explosion because of improper use and storage of explosive devices and chemicals

• Crashed by falling wall

• Struck by falling object

• Trench cave in

• Crushed by malfunctioning machinery and equipment

• Electrocution

• Asphyxiation

There are a number of reasons for these accidents to happen. But most of the time, it is a result of negligent actions by other people and sometimes even the employers.

Here are some of the most common causes of fatal construction accidents:

• One of the most common cause of construction accidents are malfunctioning machines and equipment. This may be caused by a defective product, none or insufficient maintenance, and/or improper use.

• Another cause of construction accidents are unsafe working conditions. Employers have the responsibility to keep the working environment as safe as possible for workers. Lack of safety equipment like nets, harness, helmets or other gears could lead to death. Improperly constructed scaffoldings also contribute to hazardous conditions that can lead to more fatalities.

• Another cause of construction accidents is lack of training. Workers in the construction industry are operating potentially hazardous equipments and machineries like cranes, forklifts and tractors. Before operating such machineries, training should be provided to avoid accidents. The employer could also invest in safety trainings so as to avoid accidents and to inform employees on what to do in case an accident cannot be avoided.

• Last, as a result of employers trying to cut costs, some do not meet the standard set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). They try to save money by not following the safety regulations set by OSHA that could result to unsafe working conditions.

Employers and workers should work hand in hand to ensure that the working conditions are safe to avoid any accidents.

Some of the most basic tips employers and employees can follow are the following:

• Employers and employees should observe and watch out for possible dangers in the workplace. If the dangers can be recognized, then proper measures can be taken. An example would be if you observed that chemicals are stored near explosive devices; once reported, the employer can take measures like storing the chemicals in much safer conditions that is far from the explosives.

• Invest in training. Train employees on the proper use of each equipment and machineries. Cranes, tractors and forklifts are special machines that need special instructions. Continuous safety trainings could also be provided to ensure that employees are informed and is always updated on what to do in case of an accident.

• Post the safety rules and regulations somewhere that is visible to everyone. Rules about proper clothes and gears inside the workplace should also be included.

Those are just some tips to help prevent fatal construction accidents.

If your family member is a victim of a fatal construction accident, you may be entitled to some compensation for their wrongful death.

Consult a wrongful death attorney who has experience in handling fatal construction accidents.

Going Green Is So Much Simpler Than Most People Think

An increasing number of people are now wanting to do their part to save the planet due to the worsening problems caused by global warming. Unfortunately, numerous people assume that going green is costly and time consuming. Read on to discover several immediate things you can do to get on on the path to living green.

Recycling is the top way to start. A lot of people continue to place glass and aluminum items in their normal garbage even though recycling is not that hard to do today. In the US, it's not hard to locate a trash service that offers glass and aluminum recycling choices. Many people still continue to discard these items even though recycling bins are not hard to find. It merely takes a few minutes to wash off the cans and bottles before placing them into the recycle bin.

Newspapers are another item that overburden our landfills. Virtually all people will merely take their daily paper and toss it in the garbage when they are done with it. But, there are many other uses that you can get out of your newsprint other than poring over it it. Did you know that you can keep your windows clean using newspapers? If you're tired of seeing small white fragments and streaks on your windowpanes after you clean them with paper towels and cleaner, try to use old newspapers instead. Several community groups run regular paper drives. Merely compilepile all of your old newspapers, put them in a stack, and see if the paper drive organizers will come to your location and pick them up.

One more thing that could help you to start to live green is to begin walking a bit more. Lots of people routinely drive short distances merely to buy one thing at their local corner market. If you just walk to the store, not only could it take less time, because you won't have to locate a parking spot, but you will be saving money on gas and helping to save planet Earth by not burning those fuels.

If you wish to save even more on gas, take the chance to car pool when you can and only mow your lawn two times a month instead of weekly. A gorgeous lawn is good to have but skipping an additional week before you mow again shouldn't significantly affect it. Using a manual push mower like those more normally used many, many years ago will help to save the environment even more. Numerous hardware shops still carry this type of mower.

When people make up their mind to try green living, it's easy to make a few lifestyle modifications that will benefit our environment. Likewise, you can find lots of info all over the Internet on other ways to start living green, you only have to look for it.

Difference Between Analog and Digital?

Analog and Digital
As a technology, analog is the process of taking an audio or video signal (the human voice) and translating it into electronic pulses. Digital on the other hand is breaking the signal into a binary format where the audio or video data is represented by a series of 1s and 0s. Simple enough when its the device-analog or digital phone, fax, modem, or likewise-that does all the converting for you.

Digital versus analog can refer to method of input, data storage and transfer, the internal working of an instrument, and the kind of display. The word comes from the same source as the word digit and digitus.

The digital technology breaks your voice (or television) signal into binary code a series of 1s and 0s transfers it to the other end where another device (phone, modem or TV) takes all the numbers and reassembles them into the original signal. The beauty of digital is that it knows what it should be when it reaches the end of the transmission. That way, it can correct any errors that may have occurred in the data transfer. What does all that mean to you? Clarity. In most cases, you will get distortion-free conversations and clearer TV pictures. The nature of digital technology allows it to cram lots of those 1s and 0s together into the same space an analog signal uses. Like your button-rich phone at work or your 200-plus digital cable service, that means more features can be crammed into the digital signal. Digital offers better clarity, but analog gives you richer quality. Digital like the VCR or the CD is coming down in cost and coming out in everything from cell phones to satellite dishes.

Phone lines
•Digital lines are found in large, corporate phone systems. Though digital lines carry lower voltages than analog lines, they still pose a threat to your analog equipment.

•Analog lines also referred to as POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service), support standard phones, fax machines, and modems. These are the lines typically found in your home or small office

•There are digital-to-analog adapters that not only let you use analog equipment in a digital environment, but also safeguard against frying the internal circuitry of your phone, fax, modem, or laptop.

Cordless phone
•The very nature of digital technology-breaking a signal into binary code and recreating it on the receiving end-gives you clear, distortion-free cordless calls.

•Cordless phones with digital technology are also able to encrypt all those 1s and 0s during transmission so your conversation is safe from eavesdroppers. Plus, more power can be applied to digital signals and thus, you will enjoy longer range on your cordless phone conversations.

•The advantage to analog cordless products? Well, they are a bit cheaper. And the sound quality is richer. So unless you need digital security, why not save a few bucks and go with an analog phone? After all, in home or small office environments where you may be the only cordless user, you wont have any interference issues.

•Keep in mind, when talking about digital and analog cordless phones, you are talking about the signals being transferred between the handset and its base. The phones themselves are still analog devices that can only be used on analog lines. Also, the range of your cordless phone-analog or digital-will always depend on the environment.

Cellular Phones
•Perhaps the most effective use of the digital versus analog technology is in the booming cellular market. With new phone activations increasing exponentially, the limits of analog are quickly being realized.

•Digital cellular lets significantly more people use their phones within a single coverage area. More data can be sent and received simultaneously by each phone user. Plus, transmissions are more resistant to static and signal fading. And with the all-in-one phones out now-phone, pager, voice mail, internet access-digital phones offer more features than their analog predecessors.

•Analog's sound quality is still superior-as some users with dual-transmission phones will manually switch to analog for better sound when they're not concerned with a crowded coverage area-but digital is quickly becoming the norm in the cellular market.

Better Sound Quality
Digital offers a better quality of sound. Proponents of digital claimed too that because digital scrambled up the signals into bursts, it was more secure than analog and can help thwart cloning, an act of grabbing phone account information over the air in order to copy then resell that information for piracy purposes. By some industry estimates, close to $650 million in wireless services has been coveted by these big-eared crooks, which only adds onto the operators bottom line a cost that is eventually passed on to the customer. Digital has stronger battery life than analog, and for the most part, better, more modern features on the phones.

Is Self Coaching the Beginning of Taking Total Responsibility in Food Addiction?

I’ve spent over 40 years of my adult life in some phase of food addiction. It used to be so tied in with my low self esteem and poor self image that it could only allow me to look some version of me being perfect to even be OK. When that was true, all I wanted to do was think I looked OK and then everything would be fine. And since I never could really look OK, the distraction of the addiction hung on.

Now I have quite good self esteem and self image. My self questioning and self judgment about how I look or what I think and do is very rare. That is not to say I think everything I do is perfect. It is to say that everything I do is just OK with me. I trust that I have a lot to offer and I trust that I will not always do what is popular or what works. So what? Before, all I needed to do was be perfect. Now all I need to do is be myself.

I have just recently lost another chunk of weight. Maybe it’s the last time I’ll need to do that. I got rid of all clothes that I can trick myself into thinking I haven’t gain with; the slightly bigger ones that would then allow weight gain to surprise me. That was an old subconscious trick of mine.

Now all my clothes fit; my scale is correct and now I have to self coach. I have to self talk. I have to provide the support for myself that I provide my clients; the support that ultimately they will have to offer themselves. I have to find the part of me that loves myself enough to get over it – whatever it might be in the moment.

I’m going to have to be like the man in Beautiful Mind who just decided that he would live with the delusions that his mental illness gave him and not medicate himself with the less-than-satisfactory drugs he was prescribed. I have to accept that sometimes this food addiction will walk along with me. I just need to acknowledge it, not resist it, and act in my best interests – not its.

Who is responsible for your safety at work?

"Since my accident, I am a little more mindful of the suffering of other people" by George C. Wallace, portrays the outcome of accidents which inflicts great pain on individuals and their family. Accident at work is a common phenomenon in which individuals are hurt due to negligence and inadequate safety.

First-aid and medical treatment eliminate some side-effects of workplace injuries. Michael Servetus insists that "man becomes weak or ill by accident as a consequence of lack of resources. Even the most severely-ill patients must be treated with the aim of restoring their health".

The administration is responsible for safety concerns in the organisation therefore if workers are injured while at work, the administration is responsible for reparation.

Work pressure, tension, personal problems, improper maintenance of safety equipments, negligible communication and longer duration at work are some common reasons for work-related injuries. When an employee works continuously for a longer duration, especially during nights, he loses interest in the job and this creates fatigue, a frequent cause of major workplace accidents.

Late-night and early morning working hours were responsible for some catastrophes like Chernobyl, Bhopal, etc.

Several thousands of people were affected due to some workers' exhausted from irregular sleeping hours. Hence employers must ensure that their staff get sufficient relaxation and take short breaks during working hours. Employers can relieve workers from greater workloads and provide them with proper communication facilities, flexible working-hours, etc.

Security arrangements should be frequently discussed with the management to reduce accident risks.

Workers and supervisors should exploit technological advancement in safety using shoes, helmets, goggles, gloves, bright jackets, etc. There are additional procedures to aid workplace injury victims. Some of them are:

• Victim should obtain first-aid treatment and medical care, at the earliest, provided by the management.

• To obtain compensation claims, the injured person or colleagues must report about the accident to the management, insurance and police.

• Photographs or video proof should ideally accompany the complaint.

• Identify the reason behind the accident

• Make precautionary arrangements to prevent such potential accidents.

• Control panic reactions among staff

Accident claims to insurance companies' help victims emerge from the financial burden and displacement imposed due to workplace injuries. The worker is entitled to receive personal injury claims, wages, medical-care and permission for absenteeism from work. The time-frame for applying for compensation claims are variable in different countries, processed by legal professionals, who charge fees depending on the successful completion of litigation.
